So, why choose me as your copywriter?

You'll get more than just writing

I don't just give you words.  I’ll help you really understand your clients or customers and figure out how you talk to them to get the results you need.  How do you align what you want to say, with something your audience will actually read?  I'll give you considered, well-thought-out copy that really strikes a chord with the reader to get your message across and inspire action.

I have a lot of experience

I've been a copywriter for over 20 years, working both in-house and for agencies.  I've managed marketing teams and led communications projects, but I always enjoyed writing more than anything else.  Which is why I became a freelancer.

You'll get a quality job

I like to ask you a LOT of questions about your business, to properly understand who you are and who you’re trying to talk to.   It’s not just about making sentences sound great (although I obviously do that too).  Your copy needs to reflect your brand and have the right message.  It needs to resonate with people and motivate them to take action.  It's all about finding the benefits, ditching corporate jargon, and being more conversational.

I love what I do

I’m naturally quite a curious person (some might call it nosiness) and my job means I’m allowed to ask endless questions (I’ll be the one at a party genuinely interested in grilling someone on their career as a systems analyst). Often not being an expert in something means I ask the kinds of questions that clients or customers may want to know too, which is very helpful.

OK, but what am I actually like?

I live with my husband, three children and a cocker spaniel called Bo, which means on a daily basis I'm juggling my business with a pretty busy home life.  I'm fortunate to be surrounded by countryside, where I like to go to escape the chaos of my house (I enjoy running down country lanes, plugged into a podcast or mulling over work that I'm currently doing).  When I have the time (which isn't as often as I'd like) I'll probably be found with my nose in a book.

A few random facts about me…

I’m a ferocious planner and list-maker.

I lived and worked in Auckland, New Zealand for a couple of years.

I can say that long Welsh place name (Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch).  Useless, but true.

I was named after Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice (but everyone calls me Liz).

I’m obsessed with maps.

I love to dance to disco tunes (I have to take my shoes off wherever I am, even if I'm in the pub).

I'm in a book club and it's a long-standing joke that I refuse to read anything really sad.

I’m a whizz at cooking huge one-pot dishes to feed a crowd, but break out in a cold sweat at the idea of producing something more complicated for a smaller group.

I run up a hill every morning before I start work.

I’m learning to sew, so I can make clothes that fit me properly (I’m 5ft 10, so things are ALWAYS too short).

My thumbs are double-jointed.

I love swimming in the sea, particularly in West Wales (I always run straight in – it’s the only way).

I’m pretty much up for anything – I’ll be the one bungy-jumping or climbing onto the roof of a neighbour’s house to collect a ball…
